I was glad to see that you addressed this case, because I was just thinking about it, and in particular Scalia's dissent (and his comments during oral arguments), when watching your video about the TV show about a nativity display and the "war on Christmas." I've always thought that the court's position on nativity displays is to assert that "Christmas is a secular shopping holiday." Governments have a responsibility to support local economies, so they often engage in various promotions. Creches, when in the context of other Christmas displays like trees, Santa, reindeer, are just a part of this economic promotion. To me, this is remarkably similar to your argument that the only way to view the Ten Commandments as "nonreligious" is to argue that God doesn't exist. A.creche is only secular when it is devoid of religious meaning (devoid of God). Justice Scalia would have actually agreed with your argument, but he would have taken offense at it. That is to say, Scalia despised the idea that court cases "defined away" the religious aspects of nativities and the Ten Commandments, and that attorneys would argue before the court that creches and Bible verses were secular. He longed for an attorney to come into court and say, like the woman in the War on Christmas show, "To hell with the Establishment Clause!"

I think "the 5 love languages" or "the triangle theory of love" is... a decent starting point for things, but you have to go beyond that to make it anything that is actually meaningful to the relationships you engage in. You have to understand---for example---what commitment is... and understand how to express that commitment and to what extent.

It is genuinely funny that they wanted to make a movie about how easy it would be to take over women's sports by pretending to be transwomen, but had to literally make the movie in a vacuum because it is not easy to enter women's sports as a transwomen in some part due to their own fault. Also holy cow they knew nothing about this going in, one of my childhood friends who I still check in with every few years is a big player on a women's basketball team and uh they have no idea the level she plays at. Half of the scenes you've shown of them playing against the fake women's teams are so unintentionally funny. These men wouldn't last ten minutes on her court with those moves.

I wish things were as simple clear as you make it sound. There is a host of problems at play. There is little respect for the law. Crimes are not even being called in because police will not or can not do their job. Politicians were calling to defund the police. The good officers are not being supported and the bad officers are not being removed. Many of the good officers have quit or retired. Criminals are not only not being punished, they are enabled or rewarded. The city can not recruit good officers at almost any salary. The city is desperate after losing officers during the George Floyd riots and covid restrictions and demands. They will hire almost anyone. The cities policies and politicians have caused and fueled this mess. I know there are still good officers but you will never here about them. I left Minneapolis 30 years ago but still live in a Minneapolis suburb. I avoid going to Minneapolis at all cost. What a shame😢.

I could be way off the mark here, but I think Shakespeare is talking about a specific type of love. I think he means the deepest love imaginable where, no matter what happens, the love still exists. I think he's saying that people who fall out of love did not truly experience love in it's most powerful form, and only those who take their love to the grave experience this type of love. I think he is trying to emphasis that love can be destroyed and lost and discarded but when love makes it to the end (when it becomes eternal, in a sense) then it is truly love in all it's glory and in its most divine sense. That's my reading of this sonnet anyway.

Regarding that one officer's one-liner, the TV/movie cosplay these pigs put on goes even deeper. The one night I spent in county in MPLS, there was a TV behind a cage playing exclusively Law & Order reruns. A TV in a holding cell initially felt like a bizarre luxury for the MPD to provide, but then having it force-feed what is tantamount pig propoganda felt outright dystopian. I'm not gonna say I didn't deserve any reprimand for being dumbass kid and driving drunk--I was a dumbass, and I'm lucky no one got hurt; additionally, I'm lucky I haven't gotten any grief at any protests--but for the MPD to have a well-known, decades-long reputation for being an absolute menace to the society they're meant to "protect and serve" and then force their inmates to soak in hours and hours of "cops are the good guys" TV felt almost comically villainous, especially considering the dissonance that comes when the cops and guards were so glib about using their authority as a thinly veiled constant threat. Rehabilitation and education as the standard for dealing with crime in the US may never become the norm, but to rub inmates' noses in pro-cop media, to basically mock the people that your institution's systemic racism often drives into crime--while they're in your custody--underlines the inherent cruelty in the system. I don't want to distract from the very real violence and hatred the MPD routinely exhibits, it's just that this one little detail really demonstrates the delusional culture of self-righteousness and impunitive justice the MPD has built within its concrete walls. And these MFers have the gall to call themselves "peace officers." That said, I still love the Twin Cities dearly. I want it to grow, I want it to thrive. There's so much good here in our communities, and I don't want our rotten PD to reflect poorly on the good folk here. It's my home and it deserves love.

Drawing a line for humans-of-value at conception makes perfect sense for that reason; that's when the new individual human journey from ZEF to adult begins. It doesn't begin before or after).
